Want to understand your competition better? Learn how to automate competitor ad analysis with simple tools like Make, Google Sheets, and Google Drive.
Do you often look at how your competitors are advertising? Spying on your competition can actually be really helpful, especially when developing a strategy or analyzing the market. These are some examples of what you can do with this information: identify the strengths and weaknesses of your competitors and potential opportunities in the market, measure performance, ad frequency, quality, and engagement, or just mere inspiration.
Now you're probably wondering how you can do this without going over every advertisement one by one. We've got you! Have a look at this Make scenario to automate this process:
To set up this scenario, we'll only need 4 tools: Make, Google Sheets, 0CodeKit's HTML or URL to PDF endpoint, and Google Drive. Let's say you're selling construction tools in the Netherlands, and you would like to see how your competitors advertise their tools. Here's a step-by-step guide to build this automation:
First, we need a Google Sheet where all the links of your competitors' ads will be. The best part about this automation? You don't need every single ad that a company has published. Instead, you only need just one to get a full report on all of their ads. To do this, you need to find one ad of your competitor and click on the three dots that appear next to it.
A window will pop up, which will contain more information about the ad. In this case, you can choose between different providers. Once you choose a competitor, you must scroll down to a section called "About this advertiser" and click on "See more ads" which will take you to Google's Ad Transparency Center and you'll be able to see all the ads of this competitor.
Then, we'll store the link of this page in Google Sheets along with any other URL of other competitors' ads. Here's where the magic starts: 0CodeKit's URL or HTML to PDF endpoint will take these links and it will create one PDF with every ad that has been published by a specific competitor. After the PDFs have been created, 0CodeKit will upload it to Google Drive where you can access them at any time.
This automation is easy to build and a great way for you to see what your competitors are doing. Why? Because it gives you an overview of how big the market is, how other competitors are performing, and you can analyze their marketing strategies to adapt or improve yours.
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
